Chuck Merovitz

I like people. I have been a litigator for 47 years and believe I have the skill set to be a good mediator. I have always been of the view that trial is risky, and every effort should be made to settle before a trial. I am proud to say that I was known for my professionalism and integrity and my ability to see both sides of a dispute. I have always considered it important to be civil and show respect to all participants in the judicial process, including opposing counsel, their clients, and all witnesses. Our firm was known as the “referred to law firm” because of the numerous referrals we received from lawyers and accountants, in addition to our clients.

I have always brought a common sense and practical approach to resolving disputes, and I have often been able to find common ground for a resolution by thinking outside the box. I have appeared in all levels of court in Ontario, on those occasions when a settlement could not be achieved in spite of my best efforts. I managed Merovitz Potechin since I founded it in 1976 and grew the firm from two lawyers to 20 lawyers. In managing our team, I learned many of the skills I will use to try to get opposing groups to come to a resolution.

I am Limiting my mediation practice to those areas of law in which I have significant experience, as set out below.

ESTATE DISPUTES

I started and led our firm’s Estate and Beneficiary Rights Group for more than 25 years

BANK RELATED DISPUTES

I have provided legal services to two Schedule A banks for over 45 years

BUSINESS DISPUTES

As a commercial litigator, I’ve been involved in countless shareholder, franchising, and dismissal disputes.
